Exhibitions

 

Over the last decade, I have had my work used online, in books and newspapers and it has been included in exhibitions across the UK and into Europe.

​

This page will hopefully document all those and provide updates for any future events.

2023 also saw quite a fitting end to the year in December when my created image of the Wiend was chosen to be part of a virtual exhibition.

​

The show was titled "Merry", and I thought that this image captured that feeling differently.

In 2023 I took my "Photos of Wigan" project out onto the streets of Wigan itself.

​

Working closely with Wigan Market, I installed over 100 square images into the space in the Market Hall, each image showing a view of the town, some edited in quite unique ways.

In 2023 I had an image chosen to be part of a new exhibition over in Sheffield.

​

My image of the red bricks of a terraced house in on a street in Wigan was chosen to be part of the "Urban Jungle" exhibition by the Fronteer Gallery.

In 2023 I had an image chosen to be part of a new exhibition over in Sheffield.

​

My image of the frozen water icicles in a cave in Derbyshire was chosen to be part of the "Beneath the Earth" exhibition by the Fronteer Gallery.

In 2022 I published and produced a very limited run of a new photo book - "Standish"

​

The book contained images that would be familiar to anyone local and was very well received selling out quickly.

In 2021 I continued my collaboration with Blank Wall Gallery in Athens, Greece.

​

My image of The Harbour in Polperro was chosen for their "White" display and it is hung here, on the top left of the collection.

In 2021 the football club that I have supported all my life was in dire straits - on the verge of collapse they were saved by owners from Bahrain.

​

I produced a "blue" version of an image of the DW Stadium and the local press approached me for permission to use it on their front page.

In 2021 I produced a collection of 250 images that were displayed online as part of a much wider project.

​

The particular event was "Our Wigan" and it was all about promoting and showcasing the town, and of course, I was delighted to be involved in all that.

My image of The Corn Exchange in Manchester was chosen for their "Cityscapes" display and it is hung here, on the far left at the bottom of the collection.

In 2021 as we started to come out of Covid and all its restrictions lots of galleries started with online exhibitions.

​

My image of Wigan Pier was selected to be part of the Digital Art exhibition held by Aire Gallery over in West Yorkshire.

​

I like to think my image of the Lancashire industrial heritage was well received.

In 2021 I had an image chosen to be part of the joint venture between Wigan and its twin town in France, the city of Angers.

​

The joint venture produced a book with lots of images and my shot of The Wiend was included as part of this.

​

The book now resides in the libraries of both Wigan and Angers.

In 2020 I was approached to create an online resource that could be used for future generations.

​

The resource was to document and recognise all the public artworks that are dotted across the borough of Wigan.

​

I shot and created my own take on each of them to put together in the collection.

In 2020 I had an image chosen to be part of a new exhibition to be held in the town of Wigan.

​

The image of the gardens of Mesnes Park in Wigan was selected for the "Make It" exhibition and you can see it hanging here in the gallery during the show.

In 2019 I continued my collaboration with Blank Wall Gallery in Athens, Greece.

​

My image of Lower Rivington Reservoir was chosen for their "Landscape" display and it is hung here, on the far left at the bottom of the collection.

In 2019 the local authority teamed up with a new cultural and creative agency to create "The Fire Within"

​

As part of that remit, they asked me to produce some modern images that could be shown together with old photos of the town.

​

"The Sparks Within" exhibition was held in the Old Courts and looked fantastic.

My image of The Wiend at Night was chosen for their "Moments of Colour" display and it is hung here, on the far right at the bottom of the collection.

In 2019 I put together a collection of framed images in celebration of the town of Wigan and  titled it "My Town" 

​

The collection of images was displayed in a large gallery at the Museum of Wigan Life.

My image of South Stack Lighthouse was chosen for their "Monochrome" display and it is hung here, on the far left of the collection.

In 2019 I was back in my home village of Standish with an exhibition at the local library.

​

It was an update of "The Canals of Wigan" that I had displayed the previous year and the images worked perfectly in the library space.

In 2019 I continued my collaboration with Blank Wall Gallery in Athens, Greece.

​

My image of Le Phare de Gatteville was chosen for their "Fine Art" display and it is hung here, the top image centrally.

In 2019 I had a small piece chosen for a new book that was being published.

​

The idea behind the book was inspirational quotes and I chose my image of Wigan Pier to frame the George Orwell quote and show that actually Wigan is pretty fantastic place really.​

In 2018 I took part in my first really big exhibition.

​

The Old Courts on Crawford Street hosted the "Wigan Open Exhibition" and hundreds of artists specialising in all kinds of media were chosen to take part.

​

I had two images chosen for the gallery and was absolutely thrilled to have taken part.

In 2018 the Museum of Wigan Life and I collaborated with an exhibition that ran up the staircase from the ground floor to the top one.

​

The exhibition was titled "The Canals of Wigan" and was very well received by the museums visitors that summer.

In 2017 I was back in the lanes of West Lancashire taking images of the weekly 10-mile time trial.

​

This particular image was one where the lighting gods played ball perfectly - the dark storm clouds in the distance we pierced by a short burst of sunshine and this was the end product.

​

I was naturally delighted that the rider loved the image as well.

In 2016 my image of The Discs and St Wilfrids Church in Standish was used by the Manchester Evening News.

​

The image was one that had been captured on a bright and sunny morning with not many people around and it was great to get the recognition.

In 2016 the local community group contacted me to ask if I would produce a special image for their collection of Christmas Cards.

​

The symbol of the village is the owl with the rat in its claws which can be seen in the historic local church on the stained glass window, so that seemed a perfect shot to take and create.

In 2016 I approached the local library services in my home village of Standish and they agreed to hold a "Photos of Standish" exhibition.

​

I had around 30 images distributed around the library showcasing the magnificent village and all its familiar landmarks.

In 2016 I was approached to produce some prints from my collection of pro-cycling images and I came up with this little package.

​

These were shots from the Tour de France, shot on Mont Ventoux, and from when the race visited Yorkshire a few years later.

​

The cobbled shots were from the legendary Tour of Flanders which I covered in the Belgian countryside.

In 2014 I took my photos out on the road for a series of local markets.

​

There were various sizes of images, some just mounted, some just prints, and quite a few of them also framed.

​

I really enjoyed showcasing my work and will be doing that all again in the future.

In 2013 one of the local road cycling teams got in touch with me.

​

I had covered a local race and got to know quite a few of the team principles and riders and this image was one they wanted to use as part of a promotional piece in the local paper.

Back in 2012, I was doing quite a bit of sports photography and in particular, I was capturing lots of cycling and triathlon events.

​

I was approached by an author who was also a triathlete and wanted to use an image I captured of him for the cover of his new book, which went on to be a best seller and won him some awards.

​

The original image was the basis of the book cover and I think it looks fantastic.
